Sew Mama Sew Giveaway Day

If you've arrived here from Sew Mama Sew's blog - hello, welcome, please take a look around. But straight on to the giveaway, which you are definitely here for!

Regular readers (are there any??) will know that I was trying to organise a local (UK) scrap swap. I got some lovely scraps from some very nice people :-) In fact they were so nice they did not take anything in return.

As you can see each pack contains mostly small scraps. Some as big as 10" by 15" but none as large as a FQ.  It weighs roughly 200g (that's 7oz for our American cousins)

So I still have some of my bundles left over from then and now I am giving you a chance of winning them by just answering one simple question of your choice:

1. Where is your favourite place to buy fabric? (It can be a bricks and mortar shop near you or an online shop, or even the proverbial man in a pub!)

2. Do you buy for a specific project or are you a hoarder like me?

3. How often does your spouse/partner help you with your crafty endeavours? (Guess who suggested this question?!) Like a human quilt hanger for photos, going to the store, impartial advisor or is he just the money?!!

Answer whichever question you like in a comment below and I will get the subject of no. 3 to pick a random number to choose the winner on 10 May.

For more information on the scrap packs see my previous post here.

My other half is usually helpful when i sew something for the first time with 'that looks good, maybe it could use...@ or 'not sure about the handles@, etc.

  147. I tend to hoard things, so to protect my living room from impending doom I attempt to just buy what I need for projects, while a couple FQs might end up in the basket, no harm no foul :) Thank you for the giveaway.

  148. Hello, and thanks for the chance to win !

Usually I fall in love with a fabric that inspires me a cloth, and it is the fabric that inspires me a project, not the opposite. But I store at home fabrics I can find in sale or old clothes because I can't afford most of the fabrics I fall in love with.

  149. I have been buying fabric online .. mostly peoples scrap packs off ebay .. I have been eyeing off some FQ bundles online .. Mostly Riley Blake and pat bravo's as well as some Moda Solids .. I do however have a local fabric shop nearby (not as cheap though) but sometimes fabric just calls for you to go in and physically touch the fabric! :)

  150. Definitely a hoarder! I *do* go and buy specifics .. to go with one or two pieces from my stash but I'm definitely a "Ooh! I like! *bUY*" kind of person whether I have a purpose or not! :)

  151. I guess I am really really really lucky. My partner helps me sandwich and pin quilts (On the floor I might add!) he helps me with color suggestions, shape/design suggestions, project ideas, you name it. Short of actually doing it himself, which he doesn't do, he's VERY helpful! :)

  159. My favorite place is a yard sale, you get the best deals there but second best is Brick and Mortar stores with coupons, Black Bag Saturday at one of the local stores is my favorite, you play games, get snacks and win prizes, what more could I ask for :) Thank You! Bj.

  160. My OH doesn't help very much - he can't see the point of it all! Sometimes I'll ask him to hold something for me to photograph. I don't ask his opinion very often though because he's a perfectionist and quite 'picky', which doesn't do much for my self-esteem!

  161. So far I haven't had to enlist my husband for any assistance in my crafting endeavors. I guess he really is just the money! :) By the way, he is totally fine with that - going to a quilt shop or handing over twenty dollars? Hmm?! :)

    ReplyDelete
  162. My favorite place to shop is the Fat Quarter Shop - an online shop. Love it!!!

    ReplyDelete
  163. I'm a total fabric hoarder :/ I buy what I like, and then when I finally decide to use it in a project I invariably have to go out and buy solids or blenders or whatever to work with the 'orphan' fabric.

(And I'm an online shopper, there's precious little in the way of modern fabric within a 2 hour drive of my house)

  164. i try not to be a hoarder but it's hard and my husband helps by doing silk screening on fabric for me sometimes. :)

  165. I guess I would have to be a fabric horder. I buy fabric when its on sale, or at thrift shops. I also use clothing that is given to me as fabric. So i have to take it where I can get it because we can't afford to buy full price. Also, the fabric store is 40 minutes away, so If i have a coupon for it, I buy when I go so I dont have to drive back. I love being able to shop my stash when I can't go to the store.

  171. I both hoard and buy for specific projects (less guilt about that 2nd one, though). I buy from a lot of online shops, but I will go to my LQS first - if they have it, I'll buy it there.

  172. Hubby is usually the practical help when I don't have enough hands to hold something like a bag and lining while I pin and the voice of calm when something isn't working out and I start to use bad words at my project. Since I just got laid off due to down sizing he is also the money now I guess :(

    ReplyDelete
  173. I love HawthorneThreads.com! My husband is my "consultant"--he helps with mathy things (he's a mathematician/analyst and loves quilty math!), layouts, colors...basically anything I get stuck on.

I buy most of my fabric at a store called East coast Fabrics and a great little old-fashioned haberdashery store called Russells (they still wrap every thing in brown paper). 184. I try to do both! I buy for a project, but if there's a sale on, or I'm putting an order in anyway, I usually add a bit of something I've fallen in love with without knowing what I'll use it for. And the shops I use most often are the Village Haberdashery and M is for Make.

  185. I like to buy my fabric from several on line shops (Sew Lux Fabric, Missouri Star Quilt Co., and Wish Upon a Quilt) or my local quilt shop (Wish Upon A Quilt). I am a new quilter so I don't have the stash that most quilters have but I would gladly like to be called a hoarder someday. My hubby is great....he doesn't complain when I buy fabric, he drives me to and waits in the car while I shop at quilt shops, and is always happy to help me out when I need it. Thank you! anglanouette(at)gmail(dot)com
